Aparna Kapoor

For Aparna Kapoor, the journey of founding Pravan Foundation is deeply personal—a story of love, loss, and legacy.

Having lost both her parents in their early 60s, Aparna felt a deep calling to create something in their memory—something that would carry forward their values of compassion, service, and resilience. Teaching had always been close to her heart. Even before Pravan, she had been associated with nonprofit schools and had dedicated years to teaching underprivileged children. She saw their potential, their spark, and felt strongly that every child deserved a chance at education and dignity, no matter their background.

In Oct 2017, Aparna founded Pravan Foundation with just 35 children in three modest classes in Chhatarpur. What began as a small initiative has now grown into a thriving school of 200+ children, reaching up to Class 8, with many students also appearing for exams through NIOS - National institute of open schooling.

From the very beginning, Aparna’s vision was clear: to provide children who could not access regular schools with not just education, but also two daily meals, vocational training, creative exposure, and a childhood full of happy memories. Under her leadership, Pravan has blossomed into a nurturing space where children learn, laugh, celebrate festivals, and build skills for their future. Carrying forward her parents’ legacy, Aparna has ensured that Pravan is as much about empowerment as it is about education.

For Aparna, Pravan Foundation is more than an organization—it is a living tribute to her parents and a reflection of her own belief that every child deserves a fair start in life. As she often shares, “In every smile of a child, I see my parents’ blessings. This journey has brought not only joy to these children, but also immense peace and purpose to me and my family.”
